Nanalu was being moody again. Despite the happy atmosphere that was the Festival of Death, she had been brooding for a couple of days now. Why this was a case, her handler could not fathom. She sighed as she stared at the festival depressingly, not wanting to move from her spot and just do something. What was there to do anyway? It would not chase her current mood away, no matter what the circumstances.

She felt a nudge against her side and grumbled a little. Another, sharper poke made her snap at the one poking her. It was Nekuku, and it seemed like the orange dove wanted her to get moving. She sighed and rested her head down on the ground again. The poking started up again and she growled, rolling onto her back as she glared at her loaf mate. Apparently Nekuku was having none of that and wanted Nanalu to get up. Thumping her tail against the moody kukuri’s belly, she chirped encouragingly to her. Grumbling, the hazel dove reluctantly got up, earning a happy chirp from the orange dove. She was then promptly dragged away into the festival grounds to have some fun.

Honestly, Nanalu could not see anything that interested her. What was supposed to be interesting anyway? Just the festive air dipped her mood as she grumbled and got dragged around by her loaf mate. Why bother celebrating? What was the point to anything? She did not respond, not even when Nekuku pointed out several activities they could participate in. She wanted none of that, all she wanted was to go back home and get things over with.

With a huff, she yanked her arm away from Nekuku’s grasp and went off in a different direction hurriedly, not wanting to put up with the orange dove anymore. Her cries were ignored as she ran, her feet stomping hard onto the ground. It seemed like a long time before she finally lost all trace of her. Letting out a huff of relief, she began to look around and take stock of her surroundings.

A hamburger stand caught her eye and she walked over to it, tilting her head curiously. The owner of the stand smiled at her. “Want some?” he asked, offering her a fresh patty. She gave a nod and he took the patty onto his spatula before flipping it at her. She caught it with ease and chewed on it happily, her mood elevating somewhat. She looked at the stall owner again as he flipped burger patties and stared, the look not going unnoticed by him. “Sorry, one’s all I can give you,” he said as he flipped them, “If you want frozen patties, I can give you plenty. They’re right over there.” He pointed to a bag on the ground and she looked over it. Gears were turning in her head as she stared at it before gesturing to the man that she wanted those patties. He blinked in surprise. “You sure?” he asked. She nodded and barked in response. “…Alright then. Lemme get you a few…” Once he handed her the patties, she dashed off into the thick of the festival, this time searching for Nekuku.

She found the orange dove looking for her at the bobbing for apples activity. Her relief was short lived, however, when Nanalu began pelting her with the frozen patties that were starting to thaw out. She shrieked as they bounced off her hide and recoiled, away from the patties. Nanalu just laughed as the hazel dove finished pelting her with the meat, only to run over and pick them up to throw them again. Nekuku was not having a fun time as the hazel dove chased her around the festival with the now dirty patties, their consistency becoming like that of putty as time went on.

Eventually she tired of this and called out to her loaf mate. She stopped and looked back, only to be squicked out when Nanalu ate one of the dirty patties in front of her. She looked on in disgust as the hazel dove made her way towards her loaf mate, chewing on the patties happily. The look on her face and her earlier reactions were worth it and her mood had soared. She laughed with her mouth full, spraying bits of meat all over Nekuku, who shrieked again and caused her to laugh some more. Yep, definitely worth it.

Title was based off of a vocaloid song of the same name, due to the kukuris featured in these pieces being crepuscular. Had a hard time coming up with a prank, so I just let Nanalu pelt Nekuku with burger patties. At least the food wasn't exactly wasted, Nanalu at all of them in the end. Hope you enjoy!
